National Parks in South Africa or Game reserves are found in 2 entirely different regions. The largest is the area next to Kruger Park with a large number of private game reserves.
The Waterberg area is situated in the western region of the province. As one of South Africa's most celebrated game parks, the Hluhluwe-Umfolozi Park in northern KwaZulu-Natal is renowned for its variety of animal and bird life, and it is the main conservation area of rhino's.
Madikwe in the North West- is regarded as one of the finest conservation areas in Africa, offering all the major species, including the Big Five along with almost all the plains antelope species. Fences separating Timbavati have been removed, creating a vast wilderness area offering some of the finest game viewing in Southern Africa. It is also famous for the occurrence of the rare white lion gene in the area.
