The Marakele National Park lies on the Waterberg Mountains, it become a sanctuary for a striking variety of wildlife due to its location in the transitional zone between the dry western and moisture eastern regions of South Africa.
Contrasting splendid mountain landscapes, grass-clad hills and deep valleys characterize the park. Rare yellowwood and cedar trees, high cycads and tree ferns, are some of the plant species found here.
Safaris take place in the early morning, late afternoon and early evening. The game drives are led by experienced rangers and trained guides. Guests are encouraged to involve themselves in the safari experience by asking questions and interacting with their ranger. The expertise of the rangers and guides is invaluable as they have ability to spot game in situations where the untrained eye fails.
The game stock comprises all big predators, elephants, black, white rhinos, giraffes, buffaloes, hippos, kudus, waterbuck and eland antelopes. And there are numerous bird species. Spectacular are the Cape vultures, which are threatened by extinction. More than 800 breeding pairs live in the park, the biggest population of this vulture species in South Africa.

Summers are hot but the area does not have humidity, typical of the eastern Low veldt. The park is situated in the summer rainfall region and rainfall occurs in the form of heavy thunderstorms or soft rain.
Winter is moderate with frost occurring in the low-lying regions only. Mornings and nights can be cold, but day temperatures are pleasant.
