The FIFA World Cup is perhaps the most important sports event after Olympics in the world. The event is held once in four years and the host nation is named by the FIFA federation atleast six years in advance.
In the initial years host countries were appointed from amongst the countries that participated in the FIFA Congress meets. Declaration of FIFA host was quite a controversial subject. In fact when in the year 1938 France was asked to host the FIFA tournament countries such as Uruguay and Argentina boycotted the event.
To prevent further animosity and confusion FIFA decided to appoint the host country by using a system of nominations and single transferable vote system.
