Infrastructure Up Gradation for FIFA

Billions of television viewers will watch the 2010 FIFA world Cup in South Africa and an approximated three million international visitors and the geniuses of the world's sporting media will be focused on the South Africa

World Cup will happen in Africa for the first time, hence Fifa looked at what the country already offers like world-class transport, telecommunications, tourism and sporting infrastructure, and a people famous for their hospitality and passion for the beautiful game and much more. In 2010, football everione will enjoy the benefits of a host of multi-billion infrastructure projects announced by the South African government

World Cup will pump bring Rs 21.3-billion into South Africa's economy, yielding an estimated Rs 12.7-billion in direct spending and creating an estimated 159 000 new jobs. The country's tourism industry will benefit hugely from the approximated three million visitors expected for the tournament

There are 10 international airports in South Africa, which are Alexander Bay, Bisho, Cape Town, Durban, East London, George, Johannesburg, Phalaborwa, Pietersburg and Port Elizabeth.

The Inspection Group of the FIFA world Cup 2010 used four of these airports, like the Johannesburg, Port Elizabeth, Durban and Cape Town, and all four follow with international standards, especially Johannesburg airport, which has won honors as the best airport in Africa over the past two years

The other airports like Rustenburg, Bloemfontein, Polokwane and Pretoria are not equipped for taking international commercial flights, as they are military bases or national airports, where chartered planes could possibly land.

In South Africa the road network is first-rate or to say in excellent condition. There is no problem moving from one town to another, although it is a huge country with vast distances separating the main towns. On the whole, it has 7 200km of national roads and more than 50 000km of local roads.

Although there are a number of major ports like Durban, Port Elizabeth, East London, Cape Town, etc, the Inspection Group of the FIFA world Cup 2010 did not examine them in detail. Passenger liners can be easily accommodated in these ports, but people are not expected to be arriving via the ports, as South Africa's distance from other continents is vast and there are huge distances between the various ports.

There are 6 000km of rail tracks throughout the country, and train connections between the various towns are excellent. Only two 2010 FIFA World Cup proposed venues are not connected to the railway network. The country has a strong railway usage.

Public transport is split into four , which are the mini-vans, buses, trains and taxis. the mini-van is mainly in use for group transport, taking commuters home while picking up others en route. The urban subway and over ground is also well frequented and popular in some cities.
