The South African Football Association (SAFA) House is currently under construction in the command of Soccer City in NASREC, Johannesburg.
The construction, occupies an area of approximately 5000m square.it awaits its inauguration date despite work being temporarily suspended for most of January due to 28 days of heavy rain.
SAFA House will become the central spirit center of the 2010 FIFA World Cup, hosting activities for both FIFA and the South African Local Organizing Committee.
For 250 staff members, the headquarters will be a base during the arrangement and preparation of the FIFA World Cup in South Africa.
The building's most outstanding feature is undoubtedly the spectacular, 16 meter domed roof of the main entrance hall.
The dome will feature a amazing triple volume entrance and will serve as a museum representing the history of South African football while showing football movies in a special arrangement at the center of the hall.
Construction on SAFA House began in November 2005 and even with work being temporarily suspended in January due to unfavorable weather conditions, the project is on course to be completed in October 2006.
The building's architect, Bob Van Bebber sawboth the new and old FIFA headquarters and said that he drew inspiration for the design of SAFA House from FIFA's new home in Zurich.
He said that the idea for the circular walkways that swirl around the inside of the placed entrance hall, came from the Home of FIFA and will be used to accommodate demonstrations similar to those in Zurich.
Project manager, Hilton Sparks said that the building would be completed on 31 October.
Straightaway after the 2010 FIFA World Cup, SAFA House will become the headquarters of the South African Football Association (SAFA).
He tells that it will give the governing football association a new identity. it will offer an identity for the home of football from an administrative point of view.
