Security Preparations for 2010 Soccer World Cup

It is expected that hundreds of thousands of people, including a FIFA delegation and international supporters will be visiting South Africa during 2010 FIFA World Cup.
The Government is to appoint committed individuals who will form part of established committees to ensure the success of the country's security strategy.

Assistant Commissioner Joseph Ngobeni said that mission is to provide safety and security through dedicated and professional policing.

State-of-the-art mobile command vehicles and helicopters, capable of transmitting video footage 'live' to police commanders on the ground, have already been planned for.

As for the ticketing system, a new more easy and safe system is being prepared for the 2010 World Cup. The tickets are personalized, which is good and at some of the stadiums there will be an electronic system. That will make it possible to determine the exact number of people in the venue, which is very important for disaster management

For the World Cup, there will be establishing specific task groups, based in each of the host cities. It will be their responsibility to ensure the safety of the visitors.

The assistant commissioner's plan focuses on the regular policing and a little more vigilance on specific crucial areas, such as the safeguarding of all the VIPs, teams and the public during and after the soccer matches.

They are satisfied as with their track record of expertise and experience acquired during previous big events, such as the World Summit on Sustainable Development, they will be able to achieve their objective of securing the safety and security in our beautiful country.
The South African Government states that, with the support of the public, South Africa would once again make history by hosting an event of this scale, peacefully.
The Government urged all South Africans to lead by example by showing international equivalents, what a developed nation it is by displaying Ubuntu culture.

The South African Government and S.A.P.S have adopted an integrated approach in this process by working very closely with representatives from other government departments, the South African Football Association and FIFA.
