Gauteng Province South AfricaThe city of Gold otherwise known as Johannesburg is the provincial capital of Gauteng Province South Africa, having a population of more than seven million people.

Mining diamonds, manganese and iron ore, grape wine, large scale of sheep farming and tourism are the major economics sectors.

Gauteng was the main stage where the great drama of South Africa's freedom for struggle was played out and where the peaceful transformation to democracy took place allowing the country to celebrate its10th anniversary in 2004.

Nelson Mandela and his fellow leaders of the African National Congress acquired their political education in 1940s and 1950, where their world famous notions of leadership and democracy were formed.

Ever since the great gold rush of 1886 in the Witwater Gauteng has been the foremost industrial center of South Africa.

Johannesburg, Joburg call it what you like this is the city to do business. Everybody over here is on the move doing business, making money, partying till late and eating out.

The most important places to visit are The Apartheid museum, and the constitutional Hill, the place where the many of the South Africa's struggle heroes were imprisoned.

Some of the recommended day trips out of Johannesburg are Magaliesberg Mountains and Hartbeespoort Dam. An interesting day trip to the capital Pretoria, which is in full bloom with lilac and Jacaranda trees. The Cradle of Human kind near Johannesburg is also a Heritage Center.

Soweto was once a upon a time home to two Noble Peace Prize winners President Nelson Mandela and Archbishop Emeritus Desmond Tutu.

The Rose bank Craft Market, a place where one can purchase African curios and plenty of restaurants to eat and have live street entertainers.

Melville Koppies Nature Reserve has a stunning view of city and offers fun and informative walks through, scrub, veld flowers, stone as well as Iron Age ruins.

Lesedi Cultural Village offers an experience of culture and tradition.

Hiking and hot air ballooning in the Magaliesberg Mountains.

The Union building designed by celebrated colonial architect, Sir Herbert Baker, was completed in 1913.This is the home of the government, set in spacious gardens with great views of the city of Pretoria.
