South Africa is an all time destination to visit but if you really want to see wildlife and big game, it is best in early spring (August to October) The Southern Right Whales can be seen from about mid June to the end of October and the Humpback whales from August to December, scuba diving is generally best from April to September river rafting in Cape is better at the end of winter (August to September)but at KwaZulu-Natal it is best in summer.(late November to February).
South Africa is quite safe to travel in, as long as one takes care and is sensible enough to take all the precautionary measures, which are the same all over the world.
The infrastructure of the country is of world class standard, except in some very remote rural areas, which are not frequently visited by the tourist. The road networks are well maintained and in recent years major toll roads have opened, making driving long distances easier. Very good accommodation is available and the government have graded them accordingly be it hotel, game lodges or guesthouses.
A mixture of first and third world, all major cities towns and tourist centers offer first world facilities. The Third world still exists in some urban and remote rural townships.
