Mpumalanga is a land-locked province, deep ravines, verdant valleys, crystal clear streams, magnificent waterfalls and plenty of wild life.
It is located to the north east of Gauteng and shares the border with Mozambique.
The heartland of South Africa's classic safari territory and is comprised of the Lowveld and Highveld. A very fertile province many huge plantations growing produce avocado, pears to citrus fruits, which have made agri tourism popular.
Mpumalanga is also home to the great Drakensberg range a magnificient canyon called the Blyde River Canyon, which is the third largest and only green canyon in the world. The systems of canyons and escarpments is responsible for one of the worlds most breathtaking views from a place known as 'God's Window' on the very edge of South Africa's shield shaped interior plateau.The Blyde System includes another famous site called "The Three Rondavels" with magnificient views.
The Lowveld: It is restricted to broad valleys below 1000m above sea level many people consider it to be the real Africa. In this low -lying subtropical climate broad-leafed and thorn trees co-exist happily in open woodland, interspread with long grass of course game. In the far north it is extremely hot and vegetation changes to Mopane woodland. Huge baobab trees dominate this north landscape and much of the Kruger National Park falls into this biome how ever much of this division between Bushveld and Low veld are somewhat blurred.
The High veld: Situated at a higher altitude it is much cooler and on the opposite side of KwaZulu-Natal it consists of rolling grasslands wild flowers and streams. Most of the areas has been cultivated as pine plantations and some pocket of indigenous forests. Trout Fishing is very good streams in the Dullstroom and Lydenberg.

The Kruger National Park: A vast wilderness longer and larger than the country of Israel. The national park forms a long elongated stretch of wilderness, from the southern border town of Komatipoort into the Limpopo province up to the northern border with Zimbabwe. Half of Kruger National park falls within Mpumalanga and the Limpopo province. Animals move at will through the various biospheres and this reserve is world renowned for their greatest diversity of species in Africa more than 140 mammal species, 500 birds species and more than 300 different trees species including the baobabs, marulas and the mopanes.
