 Province Capital: Mafikeng
Like the Free State this is a big sky province, which consist of classic bushveld terrain with several key features each different from the other. The world over believe the theory that humankind originated in Africa when in 1920s a discovery of fossilized baboon skull had been unearthed from a lime quarry and from this specimen paleoanthropologists came to a conclusion.
The North West is also home to the famous resort of Sun City. A two hours drive from Gauteng this resort offers a long list of diversions such as casinos, live shows, man-made sea world and two championship quality golf courses. Pilanesberg National Park: Set in an area of 1200 million year old extinct alkaline crater, one of the only three of its kind in the world. An excellent game park, famous for its Big Five. There is also another game park called the Madikwe game reserve on the Botswana border which is often a choice for repeat visitors who have been to Kruger National Park and wish to sample another region.
